PLM Mapping;
System/Role/User interrelation status and process

Supporting a cost efficient, smart and customized training setup. Suitable tools supporting customized skill transfer. System/Role/User Status Mappings. Role Skill Mappings. Validations and Certifications.

In this short article we want to talk about the concept of mapping true skill needs to a specific situation. It takes 2 minutes to read. It´s about SPECIFIC TRAINING.

An upgraded system

A PLM project such as a new installation or an upgrade is followed by expectations of an improvement. Often the ordinary user needs new skills, meaning new knowledge in some form - perhaps training. But which training?

Actual user skills

Apart from the new needed skills in perspective of the upgrade; how can we know if the user even have the skills needed for the original installation? What about the role the user has in the system, what does the user need to master? And what about the Skill Hierarchy in the company i.e. the junior-intermediate-senior mix.

How do we address the more quicker whirl of new coworkers, or external resources. There will always be a discrepancy in skill depending on if you have attended a previous training, in a previous system status, or not.

What is relevant?

Which benefits do we primarily want?
  • Relevant skill focus and strong process awareness
  • Shorter training lead and implementation times
  • Minimum negative impact on running business
Which benefits do we get into the bargain?
  • Higher educational quality
  • High level of readiness prior to technical, business process and project changes
  • Making training a strategic advantage and tool in overall corporate plans and time schedules
The mapping
By mapping the new system status with organization needs, user role setup and actual user skill level - we get the true picture and a solid base for further steps.

Next step could be short role and individual specific trainings, workshops or coaching. The time gain will be comprehensive compared with standard training.

"We only want to address the skill gap, and in the best possible way."

Standard training vs customized

Wíth this approach to new system status we can also easily address updated processes and methods, or new product lines/configurations. With this approach we can map tool skills and relevant specific tool functionality, plus appropriate sections of processes and methods, to specific system user roles.

"Specific training, rather than standard or customized."

Specific training

With this approach we can minimize time consuming standard trainings to a level where it is truly needed. E.g. when a broad unspecified knowledge is preferred.

Note that a specific training doesn´t need to be 100 % new. We can use sections of the standard material.

So specific training in large portions only need to be relevant parts of standard training. We can also integrate processes and methods simultainously if preferred (read; actually is preferred).
